NIRDESH is one of the premier women& child centred social service organization of Bihar established in 1995 by a group of experienced social activists in the leadership of renowned social leader Ms. Viji Srinivasan with the mission: Reach to the bottom line communities with developmental programmes & services for all round transformation that positively impact their Lives.
It started working among rural marginalized women uniting women at SHG platform, from where they have the liberty to acquire knowledge, leadership skill, entrepreneurship and access to microfinance for business enterprises owing to financial control. As time wheel moved on more than 20000 SHGs with about 250000 members are flourishing across 2 states. Presently, thousands of SHGs members are engaged in varieties of economic activities. Moreover, hundreds of them are part of Panchayati Raj Institutions. Consistent handholding support by this organization enabled them dialogue with government stakeholders and policy makers and insisted government to bring acts/policies that are beneficial for women community and are pro poor. Earmarked contribution by Elected Women Representatives & SHGs in collaboration with government are Acts/ policies preventing women violence, alcohol production and sale, child labour, child marriage and dowry system. These Acts/Policies have positively impacted thousands of lives of women and children. Prohibition of alcohol in Bihar has drastically improved the living status of women and children, reduced domestic violence and controlled underage child marriage to great extent. But there are lots to be done in terms of sexual violence and child trafficking/child labour for which our SHGs and Elected Women Representatives are consistently working and needs handholding support jointly from government and women concern partners.
Improvement of community health began from Training to AWWs, Reproductive Child Health, HIV/AIDS related thematic programmes bridging the gap between community and health services. To end modern slavery or child labour from Bihar and to serve the distress children in the locality, the organization is closely working with state and district administration in collaboration with Social Welfare Department/State/District Child Protection Society/Units under the flagship programme Integrated Child Protection Scheme. It is based on cardinal principles of “protection of child rights” and “best interest of the child”. And to support government initiatives for ensuring free and quality primary education to all children in the age group of 6-14 years under RTE Act, 2009 with special thrust on girls from Dalit, Mahadalit and Minority communities, the organization is running 80 Learning centres in selected blocks of Patna and Madhubani districts.
Building & strengthening knowledge, expertise and advance technologies within the organization and transform the same to the targeted communities for addressing all those issues which add to their vulnerability and misery through varieties of women and child focused developmental programmes that may contribute to their all round developments and scaling up all over India.
Support in building nation a safe place where each individual has equal opportunities of having three meals a day, education, culture and dignity, equality and freedom that translate into their survival, growth and development and contribute in the fraternity, integrity and dignity of the country.
